Thanks very much. We are considering a hybrid HP water heater & electric oil filled radiators for backup heat for the ~28 hours over 11 days per year we need it. Alternatively, a split-type HP water heater could provide both hot water & the supplemental heat we need to get off gas. 1of2

Oh no. My heart goes out to you - so very sorry for your loss. Our kitties give us such love, but are with us far too briefly. My deepest condolences.

There are now cold climate air source heat pumps that will work to -15 or -20F (-26C to -28C) and ground source heat pumps work at even cold air temps. Mine water heat pumps in the UK for district heating is also a good option.

You’re most welcome. You’re included in our Climate Updates starter pack. It’s important to highlight under-discussed topics in relation to climate change, including especially construction and farming.

My comment about the uncertainties on an AMOC shutdown spanning decades is something to pay close attention to. We used to think that possibility was centuries or millennia away. But that is no longer the case given how hard humanity is forcing the system. We need to #StopBurningFossilFuels 🧪

Some good news from Yemen where one female entrepreneur is solarizing her town. “The plant powers at least 40 low-income households in several communities.” “The community sees me and my partners with respect. Their views changed from mockery and ridicule to respect and appreciation,” Iman said.

Using fossil gas in steel and brick structures has a much higher fire risk, yet most people over the last 5 decades happily installed extremely dangerous gas pipes pumping highly explosive and dangerous methane into millions of homes.

Yes. You would definitely want a cold climate air or ground source heat pump. As a paleoclimatologist, I can tell you that AMOC collapse is not imminent. It's a serious issue we need to be prepared for but the uncertainties on timing for shutdown span decades. 🧪 tos.org/oceanography...

Thermal energy storage doesn’t get enough attention. The world’s thermal storage facility currently being built in Finland will be able to store a whopping 90GWh - that’s 30x more than the largest electric storage facility in operation today. interestingengineering.com/energy/caver...

The Varanto project design comprises three caverns, each measuring over 900 feet (300 m) long, 131 feet (40 m) high, and 65 feet (20 m) wide.
