A dating app for chemical elements. An adorable concept - with an equally adorable execution. Was a google doodle back in February, definitely worth a play. 🥽 I enjoy the new personality quiz at the start that tells you what element you are. Play: https://buff.ly/3XyEAwN

Drawing of anthropomorphized Nitrogen and Fluorine atoms, sitting next to a campfire. How romantic. Underneath it says Nitrogen monofluoride.

Met a bunch of our first year undergrad students yesterday for outdoor team building activities. It was great fun and fantastic to see their enthusiasm to start their university journey. 🍎🥽🧪

A rather fabulous replica of a 17th century Spanish galleon showed up next to campus this week. Leading (of course!) to my wondering about the possibilities of nautical/pirate themed chemistry topics beyond aqua regia and pickled lemons? #ChemSky#ITeachChem

Photo of the Spanish flagged Galeon Andalucia being pulled by tug boat up the Thames in front of Tower Bridge and The Shard.

Last week I couldn’t get this to work, this week with a little practice I made NO2 disappear by shaking with water and reappear by mixing with freshly prepared oxygen. A great experiment - and my Y13 did most of the preparations. #Iteachchemistry

Oof, looks like another science game has succumbed to link rot. GoReact is a great little toy periodic table that lets you build various molecules. Certainly not perfect, but fun to play around with. 🥽 Thanks to the Wayback Machine, it is still available, for now: https://shorturl.at/RgvFf

The right hand side of a periodic table, over a blue gradient background. Simple and minimal.

Okay, high school chem teachers: Do you have a whole unit on patterns in the periodic table? Convince me it's a good idea, rather than noting patterns through the course. #iTeachChem#EduSky
