A DISCWORLD PRIMER* *or, why should I read this thing that everyone keeps going on about? Come on in, sit down, pull up a chair. If you have followup questions, feel free to ask me or @ankhmorporkcity.watch, we're always happy to help. (1/a lot, idk, we'll figure this out as we go)

Honestly I then that might be the best option. I don't think you can codify what makes Discworld into mechanics.

(10) there’s a nice bit of advice about Discworld being satire and not comedy. But the starter is clearly a full sugar loss leader to get you hooked. (11) the scenario is a bit over-wrought. Junior watchmen investigating a break in at the home for swamp dragons.

It’s a framework for improvised collaborative story-telling. It feels like an upgrade of www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/2... with a Discworld reskin. (9) as I say there may be more in the full book. what that could be apart from advice & tables of 100s of suggested traits/consequences I can’t see.

It ALLOWS you to play in Discworld but doesn’t ENABLE you to. It relies entirely on the Ref and players. It’s a (good) framework for improvised collaborative story-telling but if you don’t bring knowledge and the spirit of discworld to the table nothing in the game play will give you that.

The 1st leg of my Pratchett Reunion Tour has brought me to 1 of the books I adored the 1st time I read it. Reading it now, it's amazing to know how much the City Watch books will change. The character development ahead really show just how confident he was getting at building a world by this point.

There are a couple of bits of fanfic that are pretty much spot on - one is a two-hander between Vetinari and Death, another is about how Vimes becomes a god

Great write up, articulates well some of my worries and considerations. I can only think of one RPG I've played where (dark) humour is baked in and that's Paranoia, but it's still hard to pass off. Will reserve judgement on Discworld until I've at least read the QS but glad it's not a 2d20 system.

Number 12: Death from Discworld. There’s gonna be a streak of Discworld characters and I make no apology. He is a snarky guy but I think it’s bc he gets so much hate for walking with people to the other side. And maybe because pickles don’t translate to the ephemeral.
