Today's adventures bring us: a striking jumping spider Seek couldn't identify the species of, a gorgeous and very calm versute sharpshooter, one of many really tiny spiders, and small peeling puffball mushrooms :3 #bugs#bugsky#inverts#invertsky#spiders#arachnids#fungi#mushroom

A striking jumping spider on a columbine leaf - about mid size, very long and narrow, an off-white with dark brown intricate patterns on its body and head.
A versute sharpshooter, also on a bit of common columbine - a large, long leafhopper, bright green with neon orange stripes and yellow legs/face, some black spots on the ends of the wings.
Really tiny spider, once again on a columbine leaf - dark red head with brown body and 2 white patches on the abdomen
Peeling puffball mushrooms - tiny, bristly white blobs in dead grass

awww, Sophie. “bee-stung lips” is just an expression, don’t intentionally consume insects or arachnids

Spiders are often good moms. This tiny one (she is barely 4-5mm.) was sharing a meal (a wasp or winged ant?) with her babies on the grass stem she'd bent to contain her web. Not sure which species, guessing an Araneid of some kind. I assume the well-fed youngsters will soon disperse. #arachnids 🐙🌿

A macro photo of a round-bodied mother spider and several of her babies feeding on a winged insect, perhaps a small wasp or winged ant. The spiders are mottled brownish and covered in pale, flat hairs.
A photo of a dried grass stem, the top of which is curled due to a spider web built over it, the taut silk bending the tip of the stem like an archer's bow. A close looks reveals a mother spider and several of her babies feeding on a trapped insect.

Maybe this one’s a hobo? I thought it was a wolf but I know nothiiiing of arachnids. Might rescue it earlier than noon, then.

Anyone know what kind of spider this is? Observed today in northwest PA. Nice orb web. (I know it’s not an insect, but using the tag for added visibility) #insects#inverts#arachnids#spiders 🕷️

A very yellow and very round spider on a web. Abdomen has black patterns. Legs are segmented into orange and white.

I keep forgetting to post this persimmon miracle for my fellow Spider-fans. This is how Catholics must feel when they find the Virgin Mary in a cheese sandwich. #arachnids 🕷️🕸️🧪

A persimmon cut in half. The natural pattern inside greatly resembles a spider. Photo and discovery by David Hallangen June 2024

🤩 If you of your kids are into spiders, these new Royal Mail stamps beautifully illustrated by the master naturalist & artist Richard Lewington show off some of our finest British arachnids. I’ve added some brief info about each one. We have around 650 spider species here. What’s your favourite? 🧵
