101. Is this book substantially shorter than most Discworld novels? The audiobook is listed as unabridged, but it’s 4 hours instead of the usual 9. Anyway, this Faust riff with our ineffectual wizard summoned as a demon by a power-hungry kid is pretty fun, tho I like other Discworld books better.

Book cover: Eric by Terry Pratchett

There's a Clarkeworld interview from a few years ago where E. Lily Yu talks about how she read Discworld and Diana Wynne Jones and Charles de Lint growing up and boy does she show that she learned absolutely nothing from them.

My background was very STEM and I count myself v fortunate to have come across philosophy of science thanks to the Discworld (specifically this book en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sci... ) - it was barely mentioned in my actual studies.

A few months ago, I decided to read through all of Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels in the order they were published. I finished the first one, 'The Colour of Magic', and then got distracted by other things on my to-be-read list. Today, I'm finally starting #2 - 'The Light Fantastic'!

I haven't read any of the Discworld books. A series is definitely easier to read during term-time as you know the characters/themes/places so don't have to concentrate as much on getting into it.

idk if you know discworld but she was heavily inspired by that setting + the journalist character in there
