Reliving a highlight from last year, when I spent a day in the catacombs of the Royal Society in the company of J.J Scheuchzer & Anna Waser - diving into the manuscript of Itinera alpina (printed 1708). Here one of my favourite Waser-frontispieces... 🥹 #ManuscriptMonday#EarlyModern

We just received the first copy of our new book! It is LARGE and it looks SO GOOD. It's a limited print run, but you can pre-order now at the link in my bio (£45/$60). They should ship in the UK in late September and the rest of the world in October. #newbooks#geniza#manuscriptmonday

A snail shell on this plate from Johs. Gessner's unpublished 'Museum' (mid-1700s) seems to have a wee lodger -a retracted hermit crab 🦀. Unknown whether it was part of the specimen or added to show they use such shells. Cute as hell, though 🥰 #EarlyModern#ManuscriptMonday#InsertAnInvert2024 🌿
