Calcite's a can-do little mineral, but it still hasn't won (yet). It comes in a range of colors and shapes, including brown and chonky like this one. It stores carbon that could be in the atmosphere—how's that for storing up energy?—and it's been seen hanging out in caves, by rivers, and in forests.
