Well, that’s one SFF writer whose work I had heard of but am now definitely not reading. There is a plethora of good art out there, an overflowing cornucopia of fictional delight, and why would I choose the words of someone who won’t let others thrive in the self they feel most at peace with?

Would a vampire queen-to-be risk mind, body & soul to attempt a rite no one has performed in living memory to stop Armageddon, knowing her enemies may, meanwhile, kill her one true love? Find out reading “The Door”. #vampires#SFF#darkfantasy#WritingCommunity#thrilleramazon.com/dp/B0CSZP2VBG

I kind of get why people don't, because potential pile-ons, but if I see - "this person we all respected turns out to be human garbage," I wish someone would name or more strongly hint at them. I just read a thread of some respected SFF author who said some anti -transgender garbage but who is it?

digging down through a bunch of posts about "a luminary in SFF" "celebrated author" "disappointed to hear that one of the genre's rising stars..." with a rising sense of panic and then to be like oh thank fuck, dunno who that is

Have been back on survival mode a bit, but considering that substack post (of course it's on substack 🙄) I felt the need to come remind folks that trans authors writing SFF exist and are writing beautiful, fun, heartbreaking, funny, smart work.

Again: Julie Butcher. A lot of us ran in the same SFF writing circles back in the day, late 00s, early 10s. She did some Google Hangouts with a few of us. We fundraised for her family. The moment I found out she was a TERF, I not only dropped her everywhere but scrubbed her from the ELEW website.

There's an exemption for British SFF authors, who are allowed to use their own name, but only if they deploy at least one middle initial. I managed to get away with it, although they did send a badger inspector into my back garden last year. There's an exemption for British SFF authors, who are allowed to use their own name, but only if they deploy at least one middle initial. People, the Constitution of the United States of America clearly states that SFF may only be written by white cishet men called Lance Punchington III. And badgers. That last one has always felt like a typo but nobody’s passed an amendment yet and Netflix has just greenlit “Badger Wars”

Sixteen Ways to Defend a Walled City by K.J. Parker makes use of gladitorial school factions clearly inspired by late antique chariot racing fans! I’m not sure to what extent that book is SFF or historical fiction with the serial numbers filed off tho.
