From Jesperson's "Euphoric Recall": We sold so many of Kris's albums at OarFolk I still remember their catalog numbers. I said, "I gotta thank you for helping us pay the rent at our record store in Minneapolis back in the day." He laughed heartily, shook my hand, and said, "You're welcome, Peter!"

I mentioned earlier what a terrific ambassador Stephen Bruton was for New West over the years. In 2005, he pulled his trump card and told his former boss, Kris Kristofferson, that New West would love to make records with him. A deal was struck. Don Was produced. I'll never forget the first meeting we had with Kris. Cam, Don, and I were sitting in New West's conference room. I had my back to the door when Kris walked in. Before I laid eyes on him, I heard his voice and completely lost whatever cool facade I'd been trying to muster. All I

could think about were those transcendent songs he'd written for Monument Records in the early 7os-"Help Me Make It Through the Night," "Me and Bobby McGee," "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down." We sold so many of Kris s albums at Oar Folk I still remember their catalog numbers. And there he was, standing tall in faded denim and well. worn boots. When he and I were introduced, I said something like,

After the final mixes of Kris's first recordings for New West, This Old Road, were delivered, I came up with an idea for a song sequence for the album, and Cam thought it was "the one." We ran it by Kris and Don, and they liked it too. That's the running order on the finished album—a small deed, but something I'm very proud of.
