See, the benefits of a Classical education include that Eratosthenes was treated as basically current events. One big downside is that we skipped basically the entire 20th century, but that is because here in Italy most of it is still live politics being actively litigated.

Classical Latin and Ancient Greek, before the Great burnout of the early teens! 😅 The Greek slipped away quickly, though the sight of it now longer inspires instantaneous anxiety, so that's actually an improvement. The Latin is rusty AF, but I remain tempted to revisit it someday.

Work in progress of the painting of the cat as values from dark to light are being blocked in. Similar to classical oil paintings, I’m using brown tones to do the “underpainting” of the image prior to adding color. This gives me more control over values and contrast and makes it easier for me to not muddy details.
More details and values are blocked in at this stage as the cat has more life to its appearance. Lighting is gradually being added to lighten up the image and build a clearer picture with the source of the lighting coming from the top right side of the image.
At this stage colors are added and the painting is finished. The cat sits looking towards the viewer as light cascades down from the top right side of the image. The chair is a vibrant emerald green in coloration with gold stitching, and the curtains are a deep, wine-colored purple with golden tassels. A toy mouse sits on the floor next to the chair and the cat’s paw rests on a loose tassel string. The cat’s fur is long and is various shades of brown and grey, and it has a white chest and white socks. She has a somewhat vacant stare as requested by her owner.

Yeah even when you take care of local stuff it's tricky. Here we have hard summer and hard winter and the rest in between is classical seasons. But as much as you follow the recommendation for every plant, it's like it doesn't completely fit.
