As someone who hasn't touched her bike for a couple of years (knee issues) I have to say use the bike if you can manage it and if the weather is pleasant. Are you good at recognising edible fungi or can you take them to the pharmacy for identification like they can in France?
Do I go for a bike ride then walk around the forest looking for fungi or drive in the car a bit further afield and look for fungi? Thing is, here in the Netherlands, we can go by bike, lock them and leave them almost anywhere, and go for a walk, nobody will touch them.

Not sure it was much of a foray as she was propagating fungi at the time, but she famously/infamously attempted to give a paper on her thoughts however her uncle had to give it for her as she wasn’t allowed to, due to being *shock horror gasp* a female. Then Peter Rabbit took off which was more fun
