One good way to ask them to order more copies is to put a reserve on it! Many libraries auto-order if they have more than X reserves per copy. (X varies according to budget and other considerations.)
Obtained elsewhere - Here's the super cool thing about libraries. We share shit. We share it with our community and with other libraries across the country. If my patrons aren't reading it any longer and I can get it from 52 other libraries, it doesn't need to live on my shelf.
Yeah. Many libraries that aren't technically depository libraries have a responsibility to have works available that are classics or otherwise older and don't circulate much. But shelf space is expensive real estate and choices have to be made about what will occupy it.
