“Happiness was different in childhood. It was so much then a matter simply of accumulation, of taking things—new experiences, new emotions—and applying them like so many polished tiles to what would someday be the marvelously finished pavilion of the self” #pride#childhood#lgqbt#lifestyle#love

maybe also because the National Gallery of Canada explicitly used the depiction of monumental scale to blunt public criticism of their purchase of Barnett Newman's 18-ft tall Voice of Fire (1967)

a little white guy in jeans and a white t-shirt looks up in awestruck contemplation at barnett newman's voice of fire, an 18 ft tall painting of one red and two dark blue vertical stripes, which now hangs in the national gallery of canada. newman painted it in 1967 for the us pavilion at the montreal world fair, so it's a newman with a canadian connection, which didn't stop some people from complaining when the national gallery purchased it from newman's widow.
