A question for the social studies teachers here, should we consider bringing #sschat here from the other place? Social Studies Chat is the long running chat for social studies teachers at the other place. Would you participate? Would you want this?

I donā€™t want to always participate in the collection of responses, polls, surveys, studies, reviews, and likes. Iā€™m not a vending machine for whatever data one needs to support oneā€™s agenda. Thatā€™s exhausting. Being able to choose to be quiet can feel liberating.

Joyce Allan (1896ā€“1966) was an Australian conchologist, museum curator & scientific illustrator. She worked at the Australia Museum & exhibited artwork at the Royal Art Society of New South Wales. She wrote Australian Shells, the first book to attempt to describe the majority of Australian mollusks.

The black-and-white photo shows Joyce Allan sitting at a desk in a museum office. She is a young white woman focused on a sample she holds in one hand, using a set of tweezers to examine it. On her desk, there is a microscope, books, and illustrations of marine organisms. The setting is filled with scientific reference materials.
This image is an illustrated plate from a scientific journal, showcasing various species of mollusk shells. The numbered drawings are labeled with both their scientific names and specimen numbers, with detailed outlines of their unique forms and textures. The illustration includes shells of different sizes and structures, likely contributing to marine biological classification studies.

Finished binge watching 3 Body Problem and am trying to figure out if I liked it or not. Some really interesting concepts and character studies but hit and miss as far as moments paying off for me. Intrigued and looking forward to season 2.

ā€¦ not unlike how people in MENA studies have long noted that Spivakā€™s ā€œwhite men saving brown women from brown menā€ has been leveraged in ways that align white feminists (ie, not just inherently centered white men) with war efforts in the Middle East: www.journals.uchicago.edu/doi/abs/10.1...

Some landscape studies I did a couple of years ago. These were quite quick paintings (a few hours each) but turned out to be rather popular. The lighthouse one is available as a print here: www.inprnt.com/gallery/flin...#art#landscapes#studies

A digital painting of an old lighthouse on a clear, sunny day. Birds swoop around the lighthouse in the distance, and a green cliff towers up behind it.
A digital painting of some rusty old boats by a decrepit pier.
A digital painting of some orange and red houses on the seafront, dark blue sky overhead and some cliffs far in the background.
