Yeah… That’s the impression I got, too. A lot of people literally calling it, a “bargain bin” RPG. I think that’s why I’m so interested in revisiting it — seeing if there’s something special under that lackluster reception.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll try to update this thread with my initial impressions and offer genuine criticism of the story, gameplay, and aesthetics.

But I’m hardly satisfied by that answer; it feels like such a cop out. So I did what must be done, and fished out my 3DS. After a nice, solid day of charging, it finally decided to turn back on, and after over a decade away from the game, I dove back into “Glory of Heracles: Proof of the Soul.”

What fascinates me, then, is how such an obscure title managed to make such a big impression on me. There’s an obvious answer, of course: nostalgia! “Glory of Heracles” was, in all likelihood, my very first RPG, followed closely by a slew of “Pokemon” games, and, of course, “Skyrim.”

It’s certainly not without its fanbase (with at least a few fanfics released in 2024), but on the whole, it seems as if this game -- and the series it’s a part of -- has largely faded into obscurity.

Does anyone else remember, “Glory of Heracles?” Specifically, the fifth entry (and the first to have an international release), “Proof of the Soul,” which was developed by Paon for the Nintendo DS, and initially released in 2008 for Japan, followed by an international release in 2010. (THREAD)
