Updated and near-final version of ā€œu* = āˆšuvā€: pascalmichaillat.org/13/ By request of the good comm people at Brookings, who were worried that the title was maybe too cryptic, the paper now comes with the subtitle ā€œThe full-employment rate of unemployment in the United Statesā€.

u* = āˆšuv: The Full-Employment Rate of Unemployment in the United States
u* = āˆšuv: The Full-Employment Rate of Unemployment in the United States

This paper argues that in the United States the full-employment rate of unemployment is the geometric average of the unemployment and vacancy rates.

Their paper which extracts key themes and summarizes lessons for policy is available here -but they also made the interviews available because there is SO much more richness in them than one paper can do justice to hks.harvard.edu/sites/defaul...

Prospective PhDs - please read and circulate. Writing a statement of purpose is really hard, especially if you don't have advice from people on the admissions committee side. This thread is VERY useful. (yes, it's from the other place) x.com/cblatts/stat...

Agree re the time bomb of falling real income for non college men. Even steeper and longer trend in the US and we are likely seeing the resultsā€¦

In all age groups too. Real wage performance since late 2000s has been really bad

Yes - really bad real wage performance for nearly 2 decades, since GREAT recession - UK wages and productivity have fallen well behind comparable countries. Itā€™s not good at all.
