And now, Democrat Grier Hopkins will be the new mayor of Fairbanks North Star having won the final rank choice round by 154 votes. Fairbanks North Start voted for DT by 15%, BEFORE they implemented rank choice voting. 3/?

And so far, they’ve been trending purple. Democrat Mary Peltola is their singular member of congress, meaning the entire state had the ability to vote in that specific race. Arguably center right US Senator Lisa Murkowski kept her seat in 2022. 2/?

I don’t know if Alaska is in play for this year or in four years, but it should certainly start being part of the conversation. Alaska is different than other states we assume are red because in 2020 they voted for rank choice voting. 1/?
