I think you're right. Also, I don't think the scarcity of late night salad shops is because salad sellers are frightened of overwhelming demand.
No one in a chip shop is hungry for salad.

There's a great 2nd hand market for hi fi as people are always upgrading and replacing, and it all tends to be well reviewed, I'm sure you'll be happy with whatever you choose. Don't be ripped off with cables and connectors, they're just wires and standard is as good as anything.

Depends on your budget, size of room etc. but you can't go far wrong with Wharfedale. The new Diamond range has very good reviews (I've got small diamond 12.1 in my study and am very happy with them. Slightly older floor standing Diamond 12.4 in my living room are great all rounders.
