Legitimate question: why are you watching it? You're clearly not enjoying what you've seen, and not expecting to enjoy what's to come. Even if it was good from now on, it seems like your mind might be set. Why not just leave it behind and watch some actually good TV?

That's true, but expansionist wars against peer opponents stopped penciling out circa 1914, and yet they keep happening If China invades Taiwan, it'll be because of nationalist fever, and Taiwan's objective value will be irrelevant, so I don't find that super reassuring

I don't really think there's a good way to estimate from charts of boats who'd be favored to win in a fight for Taiwan, honestly, even more so than in most confrontations, since it's so asymetrical.

Unfortunately, 100 years is about as long as we have for post-industrial geopolitics. I'm sympathetic to the Status Quo Coalition argument from @bretdevereaux.bsky.social, that wealthy, democratic countries have an incentive to work together, while autocracies are stuck as crabs in a bucket, but...

I got an invitation ~a week before it opened to everyone, so I hope so! That'd be a very convenient cutoff for me
