Twelve Years a Slave is an excellent memoir that lays this all out from the personal perspective. Man just minding his own business living in NY, playing his fiddle in dance bands, gets kidnapped and human trafficker into a labor camp in the South.

At one point, I read little. But they grow and change pretty fast. I often read before bed.

I saw Con Air in Korea (while waiting to get my visa to teach English in Japan) and the audience was just hilarious. They did not take the movie seriously at all, and laughed uproariously at the ridiculous parts.

This one creates a very low bar to ride above, unfortunately

I think it’s worth asking why meat is vilified so hard. Is it bc cows who eat grass like the wild ruminants before them are really worse than 250mil cars burning long-buried oil, or bc the “lots of land” the farmers use is coveted by a ruling class that’s already gobbled up most of the farmland?
