I thrilled that Nate Bargatze is back to host, but that that cold open shows the inevitable downfall of what the celebrity cameo era of SNL will get you.

Yikes. This cold open is showing that Dana Carvey as Biden shoud’ve been one and one.

Bowen Yang as JD Vance is a wild place for SNL to decide to go with “let a cast member create a character” over “a celebrity just says what the person said.”

This is an extremely forced SNL cold open. It was cute to roll out these cameos last weekend, but now it’s old.

So SNL bent to every bit of online pressure in terms of how to cast for political sketches (Maya Rudolph, Jim Gaffigan) but figured they were getting away with something by picking Bowen Yang as JD Vance.
