For someone across the pond, what's happening over there?

A bunch of corruption (bribery and fraud I think) charges against NYC mayor and some notable people in his staff. I'm not sure if it was coordinated corruption or the investigations uncovered a lot of different stuff, but it's all coming out in a rush.
