I lazily lay the tomatoes out in the greenhouse, it works.. Ripening bananas release the gas ethylene which speeds up maturation of fruit. It may work with tomatoes, but it could be worth putting a few tomatoes in a drawer with a banana to see what happens. The gas is kept inside the drawer.
