China’s political elites are by no measure saints. Many human rights abuses suggest they are no global outliers when it comes to double standards. However the political elites in China do seem unique in their ability to grasp the urgency and severity of the risks posed by our changing climate.

Indeed. And China’s emissions per capita might drop by 50% over the next 3 years using 2023-2024 trend. While the U.S. will likely remain broadly flat.

The world has a large number of economies. The only large economy taking urgent and serious action is China. No other major economy seems to be taking the urgency and the severity seriously.

China’s renewable energy investments is more than the rest of the world combined. China is only 1.4 billion people. The rest of the world is 6.7 billion people, and yet China invests more in renewable energy than the entire rest of the world.
