Time for brief assessments of the shmup[-adjacent] #SteamNextFest demos I played last night! VARYZNEX verdict: solid horizontal-scrolling shmup by the same dev as KAIKAN, though not as compelling to me as the latter. Scoring focuses on preferring offense over defense and killing stuff fast.

Hints of Kirby's Adventure (per-world hub maps), Banjo-Kazooie et al (collect-a-thons to open more worlds/levels), Neon White and Assault Android Cactus (level completion grades and "now do it again, better" temptation). It's not nearly as Celeste-like as you might initially be inclined to think.
(I realize Threads and Mastodon are kind of the same since the former federates with the latter, but the former is also Meta garbage that nobody wants slurping their data, so anyone with a pulse blocks it, and some instances likely defederate from it completely)
Really happy to finally be noticing more accounts over here that I have wished would exist / be active over here for a year. Hopefully it sticks this time. Of course I still wish mastodon would've attracted more folks (I post there too), but I'll easily take this over Threads, that's for damn sure.
