It is extremely sad to see that a luminary of SFF short fiction has revealed herself to be deeply and viciously transphobic, and specifically transmisogynist. I'm just so sorry for all of us, but especially the trans people in SFF who had considered her a colleague and friend.
This is an excellent thread. E. Lily Yu’s position/post is disappointing and exhausting and ultimately… I just woke up, I can’t think of a word small enough for someone who espouses these views. Her post can just fuck off.
Only slightly less obnoxious than the transmisogyny is the condescension. Like we're all dumb or craven for not already agreeing with the brave, truth-telling hero lecturing us. If I didn't know better I'd have thought it was satire.
When I was 2 or 3 years old, my parents took me to the drive-in to see Close Encounters. Which I thought was really boring, so I watched a movie about Vikings (Lee Majors' epic fail The Norseman) on the other screen instead.
Also the wildfires!
Hey Bluesky! Hit me up with the most recent book, story, song, or other piece of art you loved that was created by a trans person. Let's boost some trans creators today.
So gross, and condescending.
NC is one of the most gerrymandered states in the US, with millions of people living there who emphatically did not vote for this. Shall they, in your mind, be punished for that? From over here, it's not a good look.
The thing about "just move away from areas where natural disasters are likely" this time around is I feel like "the mountains flooded" isn't really registering with people.
