By definition a corporal is a 20 year old getting a first taste of state sanctioned power while a lot of SGMs are just coasting to retirement

I mean it’s a given the Corporal is terrible. That’s what Marine Corporals are. Most SGMs are “where is your reflective belt” kind of guys but I’ve seen a few decent SNCOs, particularly after they have retired.

The crazy thing about being in your mid-50s is that everyone interpreted the collapse of the Soviet Union to mean that corrupt authoritarian regimes would adopt capitalism and the rule of law and it’s turned out we’re in real danger that it turns out to be the exact opposite
