It was kinda garbage when introduced, but it's grown well, and it really comes into its own when you realize that you can create basically any .net object natively within the script, and have it behave in a way that works well with the rest of the language. Makes it wonderglue for admin automation.

Really, you just need to bring back early 20th century zoning, and combine it with modern European building codes. Make the process for building a six storey point access building anywhere require basically no approval as long as it's up to code.

Having done that for *many* years, I can firmly say that it is absolutely just as satisfying as it looks - though it's also obscenely unprofitable. I don't know what library work pays these days but, even if it's on the low end, it's probably more than bicycle restoration.

Ditto with my experience doing Windows admin in the late aughts. Parts of it were irritating as hell but, by the standards of enterprise software, it actually was fairly sensible. Same experience with PowerShell. Microsoft makes terrible OS's, but very good tools for managing them.

They actually have to serve that to Enterprise managers; I'm sure Meta's advertising accounts *do* seamlessly transition across platforms for the same reason.

...well, hell, apparently Barcelona has a district heating *and* cooling system. Fascinating. www.districlima.com/en/

If it's not central air I can see how it'd happen; the building has a furnace and charges a set - and low - rate for heating in the winter, and the people living in the unit install AC for the summer. Also possibly a district heating thing, but I think that'd be unusual in southern Europe.

I successfully recovered one of my escaped hens from my neighbor's over-crowded-with-fifty-years-of-junk car port, using nothing more than my wits, the cover of darkness, and a Cuban mop. I'm probably more proud of this than is really justifiable.

But our ME consultant changed my mind. He said: “I’m a doctor. Just let me sever his spinal cord at C3. He’ll live out the rest of his life and never be able to hurt anyone again.” I said: “But Shia, that’s barbaric.” He said: “Yes. But it’s less than what you’re proposing.”
