Pls take a look at the list. Book bans make me sad regardless, but what makes me sadder is that people let them happen coz it’s ’just some books’. It’s not, really. Book bans are a way to say ‘get lost’ to everyone who isn’t part of a very, very narrow demographic 😢

PEN America and We Need Diverse Books are calling attention to 176 banned books that Duval, County, Florida removed from classroom libraries in January 2022 for “review,” and kept in storage.
Every year I give my nieces and nephews books for Xmas. I'm always scouting out diverse stories for them. #kidlichat

I've seen suggestions on if you're trying to read and share banned books to help, to focus on the living authors/creators who are being impacted right now as that will make more of a difference. And that makes a lot of sense. #kidlitchat
None of it is shocking anymore. It's disheartening censorship that stems primarily from bigotry & people believing there is only one proper way to exist & wanting to silence those who speak about their experiences & interests. #kidlitchat
