Thank you for reading and sharing, my friend!
Important from @dlb.bsky.social - I'm not AS worried about Musk fiddling with the back end of X/Twitter to help Trump, I'm worried about the fact that the entire platform is warped around his interests, and what happens if those interests turn to supporting a bid to undermine the election outcome.
Despite spreading voter conspiracies, Musk claims he would recognize a Harris victory. He also called me a jackass.
NEW: Concerned about his recent posts alleging voter fraud from the Democratic party, I asked Elon Musk about whether he would accept the election results in November, his views on election integrity and more. To my surprise, he answered. Gift link: www.theatlantic.com/technology/a...

"journalists' content is rich in facts"
I really can't get over the audacity of Perplexity, signing media deals yet speaking of journalism as if it's corn starch that the company might use to thicken its synthetic content soup. Great story on this and more, by Matteo Wong www.theatlantic.com/technology/a...
I love this new story about the rise of generative-AI âmusicâ makers; machines that allow humans to play with noise in novel ways, that cannot make art themselves, that nonetheless clarify a broad threat to the creative class www.theatlantic.com/technology/a...
But that doesnât mean it poses an empty threat to musicians.
This part really struck me: In order to get generative AI to do what it needs to do for publishers, you may have to negate what makes generative AI interesting in the first place, functionally reinventing the wheel of internet search (at great expense) for no real reason...
Fantastic story by Matteo Wong about the limits of generative AI's ability to cite sources, calling into question how OpenAI's deals with media will actually work t.co/e7VtH0hlSq
How will OpenAI keep its promise to media companies?
