The logic for that is that Trump did best in areas with large numbers of poor whites. But his biggest supporters in those areas tend to be the petit bourgeoisie, the big fish in those small ponds.

I think it’s a combination of these reasons and others. They are legitimately afraid of Trump and his supporters and some feel there is no point to criticizing him because no one cares.
