Congratulations, Madam Presidenta!!!
Our new chapter is out online! Grateful to my co-authors, Rosalie & Kathryn, for their commitment to supporting undocumented students' mental health, & to Blake and Graziella who spearheaded this edited volume. Checkout the book, which comes out in print next month www.cambridge.org/core/books/s...
Congratulations to my dear student, Anna Vygoder, on her successful Honors thesis defense (pending revisions). It has been a pleasure being her honors advisor this past year, and what a treat that I get to work with her next year as she begins a new chapter as a masters student!
I had a wonderful time at Cinzia Solari's and Smitha Radhakrishnan's book party yesterday! How great to see so many of the people that shaped me in my journey to becoming a sociologist. Insightful take on students' chances post-graduation "The students who need this support most, however, have no idea, for instance, that their five-page, double-spaced résumé with paragraph-long descriptions of each job they have held, starting with the first, is not what employers are looking for"
Depts increasingly get evaluated based on job placement, but faculty don't always know how to prepare students for nonacademic job markets. My take on what institutions can do better: www.insidehighered.com/opinion/view...
As academic departments increasingly are held accountable for students’ job outcomes, institutions need to provide more support, Mikaila Mariel Lemonik Arthur writes.
I don't know how it took me a month to see this, but huge congratulations to one of the best! @sorophd.bsky.social deserves all the good things, and I'm so happy that she's going back to where it all started! 🎉
In a couple of weeks I'm taking my wonderful BA/MA student to ESS. If you regularly take students (undergrad & early grad) to conferences, what are some ways you've supported them and helped them get the most out of the experience? Thanks! www.essnet.org/annual-confe...
Higher ed folks: does anyone know of any research on the impacts of 4 credit vs 3 credit curricula on student withdraw rates, on-time graduation, GPA, or any other similar outcome measures? I've found precious little other than course-specific studies.
