The Wiles v University of Auckland judgement is out. Wiles was successful on the key issues. In particular, the Court finds that her commentary *was* part of her job and that the University's H&S response was "problematic" www.employmentcourt.govt.nz/assets/Docum...

I took a short walk in the Beech forest at Arthur’s Pass (NZ) this past week and the subalpine lichens and mosses were just spectacular! Here are a few faves from the microbial wonderland I found. Quote possible all will be under snow soon!

Lichens, growing on old decaying wood.
Pixie cup lichens! Incredibly tiny and growing on a very old planter box. So tiny!
Mosses on a beech tree.
The incredible beech forest!

Ha, the walnut shell was on a friends lawn. Probably not wild, but it was a nice colour so I included it ;) Arthur’s Pass is full of mushrooms now though!

We celebrated Matariki (Māori New Year) in New Zealand with a long weekend in the mountains. Here is a selection of winter found items from here:

Leaves, lichens. Moss, a walnut shell, mushroom, and rocks from Arthur’s pass New Zealand.
