And it is worth emphasizing that NC is one of the most corrupt and gerrymandered governments in the US. Nobody deserves climate suffering, but we haven’t had a voice or choice in our government for two decades.

Asheville has been *specifically targeted* by the NCGA both by gerrymandering (cracking the district to dilute the Dem vote) and by punitive legislation that overrides local control (the water board, the airport, I’m probably forgetting some).

Painfully true. Plus the initial post is stupidly uninformed even in the basic assertion! NC gets 11% of its power from coal. That doesn't seem like "a lot." Certainly not enough to single out NC as deserving of special punishment.

Your reply to @saturnexalted.bsky.social is squarely on-target, Doc. 🎯 I love Asheville for its scenic beauty and progressive culture. I very nearly accepted a job offer and relocated there, 20 years ago, but ultimately passed because of an unpleasant encounter with some ignorant, surly rednecks.

Certainly better than some other states. NC has had Dem governors and senators in that time. Not great, but not Mississippi! Anyway we shouldn’t feel the need to get offended when some horsey-faced British colonizer jackwagon has thoughts about how much death and destruction we deserve.
