Prelim. Sept. Gas Emissions update: The Sept gas emissions estimate is uncertain by a factor of 2. Our gas comp was bought by a foreign gas pipeline comp. Our automatic meter readings became estimates & our MCF "doubled" despite switch from gas to HP HVAC & cooking. I've requested a meter reading.

September estimate of CO2 emissions was a 28% reduction from baseline based on estimated meters values, not automatic readings. The usage value could be high by a factor of 2 based on immediate pass usage and last years values. Last Sept, which was 5 degree cooler and before we switched to the HP we used 0.9 MCF gas. This Sept the "estimate" was 1.8 MCF with fewer gas appliances, less folks at home and warmer temperatures.

Thanks! I will definitely follow up. I'm really enjoying learning about your work.

Thanks! I've just started formulating these ideas, so lots of planning will go into this before we take action. We got the 1st 80% GHG reduction for $12K net. And the big test will be convincing my spouse. As a two PhDs household, every decision is extremely carefully planned!

I figured that, but swapping a backup gas furnace for a HP air handler or pulling more power to my home for resistive heat and HPWH or adding solar, etc will be pricy too. The last 20% is going to cost as much as the first 80% of GHG reduction in my case. I'd love to talk to go over ideas...

Normalize caring about climate change impacts even if you think they don't affect you personally, b/c they do. My heat goes out to Appalachia in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. I visited Asheville, NC & now have family in the area. It's heartbreaking to see the devastation. #StopBuringFossilFuels

That is such a bad take & its also not true. Many red states are investing in renewables for economic reasons. It does not matter whether the motivation is to save the environment or to save money if the net result is lower GHG emissions. www.sustainabilitybynumbers.com/p/red-states...

Republican states are going strong on solar and wind, but not for the climate
Republican states are going strong on solar and wind, but not for the climate

People are building clean energy for economic and energy security reasons, and that's fine.

Thanks! That is very good to know re. GWP for propane! I am really interested in a split-type heat pump water heater as it can also provide hydronic backup heat. The SANCO2 systems I'm looking at draw 7-8A so that solves all my challenges: work to -26F, domestic hot water, backup heat & low amps.

What is nice about the split-type HP water heater is we have found models that draw very low amps, which would work with our existing power constraints. 2of2
