Got a new passport photo taken. They wrote some info on the envelope to identify it. It’s a CANadian PASSport, so they wrote an affirming message:

A photo of a tiny passport photo-sized envelope. In pen, it reads: “Emily can pass”

Ohhh. They probably don’t want more uranium mining in Saskatchewan—hence calling any pro-nuclear voices mining industry shills—but don’t extend that stance overseas.

Basically all electricity generation has downsides! Nuclear and renewables just have fewer than fossil fuels.

Odd interaction on the other site. Someone opposed nuclear power on the grounds that it requires mining. I pointed out that most renewable energy requires mining. I am apparently a mining shill because of this, and they blocked me when I asked how they intend to transition from fossil fuels.

A quote tweet of a reply, as well as a reply to the quote tweet.
I initially said: "What energy source with no mining required do you propose? Per unit of energy, nuclear power actually requires less mined material than wind or solar. This can be lowered even further by reusing spent fuel."

YQR Action! quote-tweeted: "Uh oh we've kicked the mining lobbyist hornets nest"

I replied: "Should we just keep on using fossil fuels, then? 80% of Saskatchewan's energy comes from that. 90% of Alberta's. I think that's bad. Because of the metals required, alternative energy sources necessitate mining. How do you propose we transition from fossil fuels without mining?

Not sure where else to say this—that feed, for some reason, keeps showing me posts from someone I unfollowed. Even minute-old ones with no likes, as though I still followed them. No other feeds do that for me, so I'm pretty sure it's a Home+ issue.

Bonus: Everything still shows up in the Following feed, though. Maybe also when you click on posts. Hierdie skeet is af Afrikaans geskeet. As jy dit kan sien, it means that clicking on a post must take you out of the Algorithmic Feed system, rendering your language choices moot.

Bonus: It relies entirely on self-reporting the language of your post, so it's easy to just... not do that. When I turned off English, all I saw were posts consisting solely of an image, because a 6-minute-old Dutch post I'd seen was tagged as English—probably for the best, maximizing the audience.

And actually, it would also require the person making the post to have utterly throttled their potential audience by explicitly selecting that language rather than English when making the post. So I don't think I'll ever be algorithmically shown a post in most of those languages, if any are made.
