And judgment on appropriate swimwear extended to children too. Infants could usually get away with less, but toddlers on up, gotta keep the female nipples covered.
There's still a lot of judgement on swimwear, especially in more conservative social groups. I was raised Mormon and all two piece swimwear (bikini, tankini) was considered inappropriate. High cut one-piece styles were too. The men and boys were usually fine to just wear swim shorts without hassle.
