I truly think it’s an enormous error to think you could win this issue by simply shooting a nice thing louder than other people shout the loud thing.

I don’t think that *is* the premise, and pretending that only the GOP favors restrictive immigration policy is part of the problem in seeing this thing clearly.

These are things that people are aware of and the broad numbers still look good. You really don’t have to go around looking for reasons good things aren’t good.
