I think the idea of self-care has become really warped, so I'm switching to making "maintenance and morale" bigger priorities in my life. Maintenance is eating right, sleep, hygiene, cleaning my apartment, doing all of my laundry. Morale is seeing friends, fun adventures, hobbies and takeout orders

I often post about my research in more detail there and then give a very summarised version here (because it would take twenty posts to give the detailed version) and it's where I made a lot of my academic friends. And it's where I find the artists drawing cool art of medieval Irish figures 🥰

It probably varies quite a bit depending on what corner of Tumblr you're moving in, though. E.g. GIFs, while still around and definitely *a* part of it, are no longer at all dominant in my Tumblr experience because I primarily hang out with the sad grad students and medieval nerds.

It's fairly straightforwardly sequential, but I guess if you're used to starting from the newest post and working backwards, a long post with lots of additions isn't that. It works for me as a platform because you can have short jokes, pictures, and essays side by side without changing platform.

I'm 28 and have been on Tumblr since I was 15 and I am a text-based communicator any day. Partly because of disability but largely because of personality.

I also hate WATCHING videos, especially since the fast moving, flashy trends (e.g. a whole run of inspo images cut together quickly) are migraine triggers for me. I can no longer scroll Instagram because everything's moving all the time and it makes me seasick. I hate autoplay so much.

Misjudged how many clean saucepans I had and committed to a saucepan meal before I realised it meant cooking in my worst saucepan (the bottom is NOT flat) Then Misjudged how long rice took to cook so now everything else is ready but not the rice. Maybe because of the terrible saucepan. :(

Both THE WOLF AND HIS KING and THE BUTTERFLY ASSASSIN are about autonomy, pain, and wanting control over your body and your life. They're also about trying to be more/other than the person you were raised to be: being better than your parents by rejecting the version of yourself they tried to build.

But yeah they have really wild acquisition policies for the Consortium where the oddest things get multiple copies but most new releases have two at most and waiting lists of "several months" – it's infuriating! Even with my four library cards I suffer 🥲

I suspect that's the same one I have a card for that always has endless lists. If you live close to a borough that isn't part of the consortium, you may be able to get a card there as well, which might help? (E.g. I had a Greenwich card when I lived in Bexley.)
