So I can explain the origin of the fake history. But I struggle with why it is still believed, when it is relatively easy to check the truth of many of these stories today. Also: enjoyed your Fake History book. V enjoyable.

FYI my interest in this is WRT cycling history, which is full of stories that never happened. Mostly they came about by cycling history not being written by historians, but by journalists, who tell stories + fill in the blanks with educated guesswork.

Q for you Otto: if you had to boil it down into a pithy quote (of the sort we could later credit to Churchill or HG Wells or whoever), why do we - good people, intelligent people - believe fake history, the ordinary stuff, not conspiracies, the sort that a good bullshit detector should detect?

Politics is funded by donations, politicians are funded by salaries and expense allowances. There is a difference between the two. If Streeting really wants a donation model then let's get rid of salaries and expenses and see how it works out.

Looks like a panic button to me, Jim. Were you going for the panic button look?

If anyone has any suggestions for places to visit in Zeeland from Rotterdam on bike/train/bus, please do let me know. Trying to work out what the best plans would be for a feasible day trip from R’dam to see the landscape, dikes, etc. with some cycling (in December!)

Well at least this has come out of the Plastic Emperor, little Jimmy Ratcliffe, letting Dave Brailsford be a cosplay Ted Lasso at his football teams. Expect a lot of hand-wringing from a master of the art.

It's Hill Climb Season! And if you don't know nothing 'bout Hill Climbing Season, don't worry! There's a book! One that's quite good in places, too. www.podiumcafe.com/book-corner/...
