Bottom line is that as we get older we have more responsibilities and stress in our lives and might not fully experience a game and give it time as we did back in the day. This is why people tend to believe the old games just hit "different". There are so many amazing games today as well!

There's actually a concept in psychiatry when you're introduced to something "new" it takes longer for your brain to process it hence why it leaves an impact. Like how people feel nostalgic about a cookie they had when they were kids even if it might've not tasted anything special.
