Looks like "rushdown" and "zoning" would be the best fighting-game candidate terms, but "Closers" and "Backsteps" would be the more Souls'y terms. Probably gonna go with Closers/Backsteps but YAY! THANKS ALL!
No no, it's fine! This is me checking/learning is all, thanks!
Oh! Totally, Blender's your next-best option so far as I'm aware. Unity doesn't really have a MeshTool equivalent. ProBuilder's the closest, but for a variety of reasons, it's just. Ehhhh. Not really a thing I'd use heavily in the same way as part of level design.
That is - trying to reposition to get you into the Zone for a fancier at-greater-distance attack
So rushdown closes distance, and zoning is distance-creating? Because, yeah, the purpose of the distance creations are usually because they're creating distance for another lunge so - ahhhhh and that's Zoning, isn't it?
Currently I'm just saying "distance closing" and "distance creating" but... come on, surely there's some tidy Fighting Game Community term for these I can use? Right?
Fighting/action game folks: what would you call the class of moves an enemy uses to close distance? So leaping slams, distance-closing lunges, teleport-strikes, etc. Same question for the reverse, moves that create distance. So slash-backsteps, or backflip-throw knives-land further away, or etc.
Yeah! Dunno if you're Unreal yet, but if you are, check out MeshTool. It has a hotspotter built in, which means you can mesh out levels in an extremely Source 2 kinda way if you want.
Seriously. Fuckin. What, any country anywhere near Israel is Hezbollah now? They gonna bomb Cyprus next? And we're going to keep giving them the weapons to do this?
