Based on three of our first four films, Angelina Jolie absolutely does not get the respect she deserves as a director. Unfortunately, the inert misfire Without Blood will not change that standing in the cultural zeitgeist. My review from #TIFF

'Without Blood' Review: Salma Hayek Cannot Save Angelina Jolie's Inert Revenge Melodrama [TIFF]
'Without Blood' Review: Salma Hayek Cannot Save Angelina Jolie's Inert Revenge Melodrama [TIFF]

Salma Hayek does her best, but gets little help from co-star DemiĂĄn Bichir in Angelina Jolie's disappointing directoral effort 'Without Blood'

It was a massive night at the Creative Arts Emmys for FX as Shogun took 14 wins, The Bear earned 7 and the Walt Disney Company ended the two-night event with 57 wins combined. Oh, and Jamie Lee Curtis and Sandra Oh got their first Emmys. Complete List:

Creative Arts Emmys Night Two: 'Shōgun' Dominates As Jamie Lee Curtis, Sandra Oh And Pasek And Paul Earn Historic Wins

'Shōgun' earned 14 nominations at the Creative Arts Emmys while 'The Bear' took 7 in a massive night for The Walt Disney Company

The world-building in The Assessment is more interesting than the ultimately predictable storyline Alica Vikander and Elizabeth Olsen endure. Minnie Driver has an incredible monologue about this future society and that's the movie you wanna see. My #TIFF Review:

'The Assessment' Review: Elizabeth Olsen & Alicia Vikander Fuel Predictable Future World Thriller
'The Assessment' Review: Elizabeth Olsen & Alicia Vikander Fuel Predictable Future World Thriller

Strong performances from Alicia Vikander and Elizabeth Olsen can't elevate Fleur FortunĂŠ's directorial debut, 'The Assessment'

If there is one very good to great world premiere at #TIFF 2024 it may just be Mike Leigh's Hard Truth which features a stunning performance from Marianne Jean-Baptiste I simply can't stop thinking about. My review:

'Hard Truths' Review: Marianne Jean-Baptiste Unleashes An Unforgettable Fury In Mike Leigh's Family Drama [TIFF]
'Hard Truths' Review: Marianne Jean-Baptiste Unleashes An Unforgettable Fury In Mike Leigh's Family Drama [TIFF]

Marianne Jean-Baptiste and Michelle Austin are superb in Mike Liegh's hilarious and haunting 'Hard Truths.'

Chris Sanders' The Wild Robot was a little too Looney Tunes for me at the beginning, but this beautifully animated movie had me bawling by the end. My review from #TIFF

'The Wild Robot' Review: A Bumpy Take Off Lands With A Tearjerker [TIFF]
'The Wild Robot' Review: A Bumpy Take Off Lands With A Tearjerker [TIFF]

After a Looney Tunes inspired first act, Chris Sanders lands an emotional ending to DreamWorks Animation's The Wild Robot

"On Swift Horses" has an interesting queer story to tell, but director Daniel Minahan can't pull compelling performances from either Daisy Edgar-Jones or Jacob Elordi. The supporting actors blow them off the screen. A bit of a mess. My review from #TIFF

'On Swift Horses' Review: Jacob Elordi & Daisy Edgar-Jones Can’t Spark This Queer Drama [TIFF]
'On Swift Horses' Review: Jacob Elordi & Daisy Edgar-Jones Can’t Spark This Queer Drama [TIFF]

Jacob Elordi, Will Poulter and Daisey Edgar-Jones are overshadowed by their supporting co-stars in ‘On Swift Horses’

Yes, Pamela Anderson is absolutely impressive in Gia Coppola's 'The Last Showgirl,' but what struck me the most was the director's clear understanding of the blue-collar workers who keep the Vegas Strip alive. My review from #TIFF

'The Last Showgirl' Review: Pamela Anderson Glitters In Gia Coppola's Dissection Of The Las Vegas Dream [TIFF]
'The Last Showgirl' Review: Pamela Anderson Glitters In Gia Coppola's Dissection Of The Las Vegas Dream [TIFF]

Pamela Anderson is impressive in Gia Coppola's 'The Last Showgirl,' a mirror to the working class people who keep the Las Vegas strip alive.

Director Sean Ellis makes some terribly dated creative decisions with The Cut, but this unconventional boxing movie will keep you on the edge of your seat thanks to a compelling subject matter and fantastic performances from Orlando Bloom, John Turturro, and CaitrĂona Balfe. My review from #TIFF

'The Cut' Review: Orlando Bloom Must Make Weight At Any Cost [TIFF]
'The Cut' Review: Orlando Bloom Must Make Weight At Any Cost [TIFF]

Orlando Bloom plays a boxer who descends into a weight loss hell in Sean Ellis' intense untradtional boxing thriller 'The Cut'

Vicky Krieps is superb (when is she not?), but Dacre Montgomery is miscast in this ghost story that has lofty ambitions and can't be saved by a tension-filled third act. My review from #TIFF

'Went Up The Hill' Review: Vicky Krieps And Dacre Montgomery Are Possessed, But Should They Be? [TIFF]
'Went Up The Hill' Review: Vicky Krieps And Dacre Montgomery Are Possessed, But Should They Be? [TIFF]

As always, Vicky Krieps is superb, but Dacre Montgomery can't quite cut it in Samuel Van Grinsven’s traumatic ghost story 'Went Up The Hill'
