'Shōgun,' 'Hacks,' 'The Bear' and 'Baby Reindeer' dominated the 2024 Emmy Awards that was actually full of surprises

Last. TIFF. Review. And it's Rebel Wilson's The Deb! The good news is the songs are stellar, the musical numbers have punch, and leads Charlotte Macinnes and Natalie Abbott have star power. When the movie isn't singing? Not so good. My #TIFF review:
Newcomers Natalie Abbott and Charlotte MacInnes deliver star-making performances in Rebel Wilson's movie musical 'The Deb'
There was some buzz on the streets of Toronto but few expected Mike Flanagan's The Life of Chuck to win the TIFF People's Choice Award. This should help its acquisition prospects tho. Emila Perez and Anora were 2nd and 3rd respectively. The Substance took the Midnight Madness prize. Full list:
'The Life of Chuck' takes the TIFF People's Choice Award while 'Anora' and 'Emilia Perez' come in second and third respectively
Gillian Anderson and Jason Isaacs are quite good, and Hélène Louvart's cinematography is often sublime but there is something too understated about The Salt Path which makes it likely...forgettable. My review from #TIFF24
Gillian Anderson and Jason Isaacs are as good as you'd expect them to be in Marianne Elliott 's well crafted feature debut, 'The Salt Path'
There is always a surprise on Emmy night, but probably not any category this year with the already record-breaking winning Shōgun. As for the rest of the categories...who will win? Who could upset? Some final predictions:
'Baby Reindeer,' 'The Bear' Jean Smart and, yes, 'Shōgun' should be big winners at the 2024 Primetime Emmy Awards
The Sundance Institute has narrowed its search for a new home for 2027 down to three candidates: Boulder, Colorado (yes, please), a combined Salt Lake City and Park City, Utah bid (focus on SLC), and...Cincinnati, Ohio. Details and statements from those involved:
Sundance has selected Boulder, Colorado, a Salt Lake City/Park City Utah bid and Cincinatti, Ohio as finalists for the festival's new home
David Mackenzie's Relay is a fun late '90s or early '00s high-concept thriller until it's not. Riz Ahmed is great as always tho. My review from #TIFF
Riz Ahmed is great. The concept is great. The first two acts are great. And then David Mackenzie's 'Relay' falters before the finish line.
Ryan Destiny and Brian Tyree Henry deliver but Rachel Morrison’s The Fire Inside is still a too familiar underdog sports story. But at least T-Rex’s story is on the screen. My review from #TIFF
