I am hearing Ricky Tomlinson 🤣
I tend to like tables or lists of questions! Couldn’t get on board with those curriculum road maps / snakes for the same reason. I am about to go for a dog walk and roast dinner, but may come back to it! 🤔
Budgets are a major barrier to introducing new texts. I’m always somewhat baffled when people suggest complete freedom of text choice for all teachers in the dept, changed every year … even if it were theoretically a good idea, it’s totally impractical.
Awww lovely! Also - great bag.
Lovely! Makes me want to go for an autumn walk then come back and snuggle in for the evening.
Intertextuality and Opportunities for active participation. This provided a starting point for departments to develop for their context.
I’ve started talking about this on another thread but we worked with librarians and teachers to come up with key areas to consider and criteria for each. They were: Curriculum sequencing; English substantive & disciplinary knowledge; Accessibility / RA: diversity & representation (ref RS Bishop);
Introducing a tick-box ‘diverse’ text won’t solve things on its own without seeding and growing far more complex threads through the weeks, months & years of teaching English, planning CPD around the why and how of these decisions and giving co-planning time to departments for sound implementation.
I sometimes think introducing a new text is a proxy for the harder curricular or pedagogical thinking needed to do the thing you are really trying to do.
Every new text you introduce has a knock on effect on your curriculum sequencing too. A lot of thought and care needs to go into the long term planning.
