This is, honest to God, the future Republicans want. It’s not even like with abortion bans, where they pretend to reject the obvious consequences of their policies. They see cops questioning your teenage daughter’s friends about whether they’ve seen each other naked and think “good, more of this.”
The only way the Republicans can truthfully claim that the crime rate is rising is to create whole new categories of crimes to prosecute and punish.

Policing was never what TV taught us, but it is completely unrecognizable today. Clusters of thuggish creeps one-upping one another in terms of naked hostility to out-groups.
