4. Birds of prey are predominantly sexually dimorphic, meaning the sexes have different characteristics. In birds of prey, that difference is usually size. The females tend to be larger than the males, sometimes significantly so. When you see thar huge bird, you can say "She's beautiful!"

3. When birds of prey fledge the nest, they are basically fully grown. They have different plumage than adults, and usually, their eyes are lighter or a completely different color than adults of the same species.

2. Birds of prey may attack dogs and cats to defend their nest or fledgings from predators. Some will even attack people. But they don't see your pets as food and won't try to carry them away. Except for Great Horned owls, they're apex predators and definitely small animals as food.

1. On average, only 1 of 5 juvenile birds of prey survive their 1st year of life. Though their parents try to teach them to hunt, some starve. Some die from eating poisoned rodents. Others are killed by vehicles or other birds of prey from territorial disputes.
