#SundaySoaping#Beachcombing finds. I hate it and am still sorting stuff from June 😅

A flat lay of misc beachcombing finds, including two large orange lobster claws, seaglass in multiple colours and shapes , beach pottery with patterns and stripes. Text above reads “ullapool June 2024”
Dozens of pieces if wet sea glass, some with suds in, resting on a tea towel

Here's an a real story about a nose leech dailyparasite.blogspot.com/2019/10/dino... which happens to be in the same family and similar habits to the Tyrannobdella rex which starred in that thread. Compare and contrast with what happens in that T. rex leech story going around.

When it comes to parasitology, sometimes you have to get really up close with your study organism, as one researcher in Taiwan did in trying...

I think it's an aesthetic thing for me too - I don't really enjoy the "quick cut to make quotidian things exciting" approach, nor the saturated super-real colouration/unrealistic artistic shots (all a bit wes anderson???). I think I like plotted/novel stories more than I do clever film making maybe?I think it's an aesthetic thing for me too - I don't really enjoy the "quick cut to make quotidian things exciting" approach, nor the saturated super-real colouration/unrealistic artistic shots (all a bit wes anderson???). So my morning-after take on the Substance is that if you genuinely enjoyed the Barbie movie (rather than "that was OK and I'm glad it exists in principle") and you can handle routine body horror (teeth, pus, needles) then you'll probably love The Substance. I found it a bit too silly & flashy tbh.So my morning-after take on the Substance is that if you genuinely enjoyed the Barbie movie (rather than "that was OK and I'm glad it exists in principle") and you can handle routine body horror (teeth, pus, needles) then you'll probably love The Substance. OMG I *so* want to write about the gentrification of cold water - the "moral" basis of suffering through "wild" swims/showers that's been totally invented by the middle class (based on some insanely shonky bad science woo too). But my sister does cold swimming so I feel she'd take it personally :/

We are supposed to believe it’s offensive to say Zionism is a form of colonialism even as Israel is literally trying to forcefully annex as much sovereign territory as it can right in front of our eyes. Okay.

One of the things about being middle-aged is you become more sympathetic to the characters villianized in shows about theatre for asking questions like “how are we paying for this?” and “who is the audience?”
