I think it's an aesthetic thing for me too - I don't really enjoy the "quick cut to make quotidian things exciting" approach, nor the saturated super-real colouration/unrealistic artistic shots (all a bit wes anderson???). That seems fair, though the oversaturated cartoonish aesthetic worked for me. Oddly enough The Substance got best screenplay at Cannes - of all the categories to award it in, that one seems the least likely/deserved.
