This! It's known as the paradox of skill: as the average gets higher, the less the standouts can actually stand out. It applies to pro athletes as well as many other professions. (Consider how Gretzky/Lemieux dominated hockey in a way no one can replicate today for handful of years at most)
IT people are good at IT, but not at communications, so I'd agree that it's best for them to have 24h to work out the kinks once they realize not everyone is going to follow their instructions the exact same way.
